Netflix is packed with so many exciting titles but it means that sometimes underrated shows can fall through the cracks.

From the 'best ever' thriller series the platform has produced, to a crime movie Stephen King hailed 'unbearably suspenseful' - which leaves the streamer pretty soon - you're not short on content to get your eyeballs on.

Yet, within the streamer's 7,000 strong catalogue is a top-rated horror mini-series you might never have heard of.

The eight-parter has racked up a perfect, 100 percent score from Rottens Tomatoes critics.

An Icelandic mystery-drama, it first premiered on Netflix in June 2021.

The drama follows the aftermath of the eruption of the Katla volcano - a real, active subglacial volcano located in southern Iceland.

A year on, the remote town of Vík still lies cloaked in ash, almost entirely deserted - except for a few determined residents.

Then something strange happens: people who died years ago start appearing, alive and unchanged, including a woman who vanished two decades earlier. These ash-covered figures stir up fear and confusion, reviving old folklore about mysterious beings called 'changelings'.

As more of the dead walk among the living, residents are forced to confront unresolved grief, secrets and guilt - each dealing with a haunted past in their own way.

The series in question is named Katla, after the volcano, of course.

Critics awarded it a perfect 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and while some believe it has a slow start, they agree 'once it gets going, it’s an incredibly intense and psychological mystery.'

As Forbes' Paul Tassi put it: "Katla ended up going places I wasn't expecting past this initial premise, and managed to be a rather touching exploration of grief, loss and regret, albeit in a way that moves a bit... slowly at times."

The praise continued on the Netflix Bangers Facebook page, where one fan wrote: "Katla is amazing, especially if you are a fan of Dark or Equinox," adding: "It is a psychological thriller with a lot of characters. Spectacular stuff."

Another penned: "I'm only two episodes in and I'm hooked."

Meanwhile, a third added: "It’s incredible. Really gets you thinking and every theory you come up with gets proven wrong."

A fourth said: "If you liked DARK, you gotta watch KATLA. only 2 episodes in and I'm hooked."

Someone else regretted leaving it 'way too late' to watch the series, but added: "Katla is amazing, especially if you are a fan of Dark or Equinox.

"It is a psychological thriller with a lot of characters. Spectacular stuff."

Katla is available to stream now on Netflix.
