Mindhunter fans in awe of show's casting as thousands sign petition for Netflix to bring back series

The Netflix series will not be returning for a third season

We all have our favorite series to go back to. Maybe you’re nostalgic, constantly binging Gilmore Girls, or perhaps you’re more into the crime of How to Get Away With Murder, or the true story behind Inventing Anna.

But one show fans are absolutely desperate for Netflix to bring back is Mindhunter.

So much so, thousands have signed a petition for its return.

The crime-thriller series was a total smash when it dropped on the streaming site back in 2017, with a second series following in 2019.

And that second season has a very impressive 99 percent Certified Fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

With such success, most fans wouldn’t have guessed those final few episodes would have been the last.

However, it doesn’t stop us from admiring the brilliance behind the show.

Fans have been in absolute awe of Mindhunter’s casting after a collage was posted to X (formerly Twitter).

Account ‘Morbid Knowledge’ shared a variety of images of the ‘actual serial killers vs the actors that played them’.

There will be no third season of the show.

The similarities are uncanny with users calling them ‘scarily accurate’.

One wrote: “They all did a great job,” while another said: “Nah, they reincarnated…”

One user also put: “I’d give this a 10/10 for how identical they look.”

And another quipped: “Really excellent job casting to look pretty similar.”

But many others were busy demanding for Netflix to ‘bring that show back’ calling it ‘one of the best shows of all time’.

Mindhunter is based on a true crime book about the FBI’s ‘Elite Serial Crime Unit’ who came up with a psychological profile to help catch serial killers.

The show was written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker and featured Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv and David Fincher was the most frequent director and de facto showrunner.

And in February this year, co-executive producer Fincher confirmed there would be no third season.

He told French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche: “I’m very proud of the first two seasons.

"But it’s a particularly expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we haven’t attracted a large enough audience to justify such and investment.

“I don’t blame them, they took risks to launch the series.”

However, on change.org, a petition for a third season of Mindhunter has reached over 80,000 signatures at the time of writing.

In their statement, fans wrote: “Please don't let such a brilliant series die because we know, without doubt, this show/series has the potential to be Netflix most successful and popular ever.”
