Morena Baccarin says she ‘may not’ be in ‘Deadpool 3’ despite receiving call to appear

Despite playing Deadpool's long-suffering girlfriend in the first two films, Morena Baccarin is unsure whether she'll return to the MCU.

Morena Baccarin has revealed that she may not appear in Deadpool 3, saying that the next film in the franchise will be a ‘reinvention’.

It will be the first Deadpool film to be released after Disney bought the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and its parent company, Fox.

Although many fans had expected Baccarin to return as the merk’s long-suffering girlfriend Vanessa, the actor has revealed she’s still in talks about a possible appearance.

Whilst little is known about the upcoming film’s plot, two new cast members have recently been announced by lead actor Ryan Reynolds.

Though the film won’t be released until next year, he announced that Emma Corrin will be in the third instalment of Deadpool.

Sharing a picture of The Crown actor, Reynolds wrote: “New addition to the family! The Deadpool family, for clarity. Which is just like a real family except with less swearing… Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

Also joining them will be Succession star Matthew MacFayden and Wolverine’s Hugh Jackman as the mutant goes head-to-head with the motor-mouthed merk.

Despite the film having a stacked cast though, Baccarin is still unsure whether she will reprise her role as Vanessa.

Reynolds made the announcement in February.

The 43-year-old actress made the admission whilst appearing on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum.

Though the actor has been called by Disney about appearing in Deadpool 3, she revealed that they were still discussing whether she would reprise her role in the MCU.

“I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here,” she told listeners, adding: “I‘d like to be in it. They have called about me being in it. Right now, we have not agreed on terms and everybody’s trying and doing their best, but it may or may not work out.”

Baccarin had starred in the previous two Deadpool films.

Even with everyone wanting Baccarin to return as Vanessa, whom she played in the first two films, it seems there have already been tensions over the tone of the upcoming films.

In one telling moment, she said that Deadpool 3 would ‘reinvent’ the NSWF film franchise.

She added: “…this movie, since the acquirement of this Deadpool universe by Marvel-Disney, I do feel like they’re trying to reinvent it a little bit.”

It seems Disney executives are keen to focus on the fan-favourite mutants, after the disappointing reviews for some of its recent Marvel releases.

Baccarin acknowledged this, saying: “I think this movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool.”

Frustratingly though, fans will have to wait a little longer to see if the Gotham actress makes the final cut, as Deadpool 3 will be released in November 2024.
