With Madonna slated to direct, news has emerged that Garner has been offered the coveted part in the Universal Pictures production.

The news was reported by Variety, and speaking of the upcoming film, Madonna has said: "I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer, a human being, trying to make her way in this world.

"The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."

Little else is known about the cast, and the project has been kept tightly under wraps since it was announced back in 2020.

It is thought that the film will focus on key moments in the singers life, before culminating on her Blonde Ambition tour in the 1990s.

However, the internet lost it earlier this year when Madonna shared a photo of herself and Julia Fox, with the caption: "Went to dinner with Julia to talk about my movie."

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, the Uncut Gems star was in talks to play actor and best friend of Madonna, Debi Mazar.

There have been previous attempts to make a Madonna movie, but they didn't involve the icon herself.

One script, written by Elyse Hollander, received particular backlash in 2016 and wasn't produced as a result.

Madonna also spoke out about previous projects not involving her on the The Tonight Show in October 2021. "The reason I’m doing it is because a bunch of people have tried to write movies about me, but they’re always men," she said.

"I read that Universal was doing a script [...] they wanted my blessing, and I read it. It was the most hideous, superficial crap I’ve ever read. This happened a couple of times. So, finally, I just threw down the gauntlet."

A release date for the film has not yet been confirmed.
