A Lord of the Rings fan has gone viral after sharing a heartfelt clip of his reaction to seeing a Black version of Aragorn for the first time.

The fan has stressed just how important representation is by breaking out into tears while showing off the character.

You can see the fans response here:

Tabletop card game Magic of the Gathering has released a new Lord of the Rings set in which Aragorn is depicted as a Black man for the first time ever; as well as Galadriel and Eowyn who have also been redesigned as Black characters.

TikTok user The Ebony Warrior, or @ebonywarriorstudios as he’s known on the platform, explained that it was ‘awesome’ to see himself ‘represented in some form of official Lord of the Rings media’.

In the clip, which he recorded against a backdrop of the Aragorn and Arwen playing card, he says: “I promised myself I wasn’t going to break down today.

“I’m trying not to... but there is something I didn’t get to say about this. We’ve seen Baranor in but he was a made up character for the Lord of the Rings.

The TikToker became emotional talking about the new design.

“I’ve never seen myself represented in Lord of the Rings before. This is awesome because I’ve never seen myself as one of the main characters before… actually seen myself represented in some form of official Lord of the Rings media.

“Representation matters. Lord of the Rings has been my favourite for the longest. I don’t think they understand how important this is to me. How much this means to me, to be able to see myself as Aragorn.”

He ended his sweet clip by joking: “Well, I lost that bet.”

The clip has since racked up more 100,000 views and has been flooded with responses from fans who are equally as delighted to see the card.

He stressed how important representation was.

One person wrote: “My guy, my heart swells for you. I know how much fantasy means to me, so I’ll just I’d be proud to fight alongside you in our dreams.”

Another said: “I work for MTG and specifically worked on this set. This video brings me so much joy. (And it’s being tossed around the office.)”

A third commented: “That’s absolutely awesome and wonderful - thank you for sharing.”

While someone else said: “This reaction is why representation is so, so important for all peoples. I’m happy for you and hope we see more and more.”
