Jonah Hill’s new Netflix rom-com You People has been met with mixed reaction from viewers, with many saying it's a hilarious watch that also tackles serious topics like class and race... while others have argued it simply 'sucks so bad'.

Watch the trailer for the new flick here:

Directed by Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Grown-ish, Entergalactic), You People is a new rom-com boasting an all-star cast – Jonah Hill, Lauren London, David Duchovny, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Eddie Murphy, to reel off a few.

The movie, which Barris also co-wrote with Hill, follows a couple as they navigate their relationship against the modern backdrop of culture clashes, societal expectations and generational differences.

A synopsis from Netflix says: “A new couple learns that opposites attract but some families don’t when they find themselves confronting their parent's clashing views of their relationship in this comedy written by Jonah Hill and Kenya Barris.”

The film landed on Netflix on 27 January.

After landing on the streaming site on 27 January, the film seems to have really split viewers down the middle – with some saying it’s the funniest thing they’ve seen in a ‘long time’, also praising the new release for tackling heavy themes like racism and white privilege, while others have admitted they found it ‘disappointing’.

One person tweeted: “This You People movie on Netflix is one of the worst movies I’ve seen in my life. Why would Eddie Murphy even take this role? He’s not even funny in this movie. It sucks so bad.”

Someone else said: “You People isn't getting enough hate. Netflix will pay for its crimes man.”

A third wrote: “Saw You People on Netflix Very disappointing. Here’s a quote: ‘I don’t turn in the news everyday and see people in yarmulkes getting shot by police because they was out minding their business.’ This whole scene was cringe.”

But among the fans was one viewer who said the film was ‘hilarious’, adding: “Haven’t laughed that hard at a movie in a long time. Please don’t psychoanalysis it, just enjoy it for what it is.”

Another agreed: “Yall I’m watching YOU PEOPLE on Netflix absolutely screaming, funny af.”

Others praised its romance elements, too, with one commenting: “You People Netflix surprised me. This is a great rom-com for the new dating age. Jonah Hill and Lauren London are adorable...Ezra and Amira's parents are a riot...the holocaust diamond story is a mess. All in all, it's a fun ride.”

A fourth added: “I just finished You People starring Jonah Hill and Eddie Murphy on Netflix. Y’all! I laughed and I cried. It blends comedy & romance in such a genuine way, while tackling heavy topics like white privilege and racism. Arguably the best movie I’ve seen in recent memory. 10/10!”
