A new trailer for House of the Dragon season two is here.

In a surprising twist, keeping in line with the shocks of the show, HBO have released a pair of trailers, setting up the show from both perspectives - Team Green and Team Black.

Based on this first pair of trailers, it is clear that the love and fanfare for the show is only set to continue – with the sophomore season set to focus on an all-out civil war within the ruling Targaryen family.

Focusing on the tagline ‘All Must Choose’, the season is set to pit all characters against one another.

The pair of trailers also released the premiere date, with the show set to return on June 16.

On one side you have ‘Team Black’, those supporting Rhaenyra, and ‘Team Green’, those supporting Alicent Hightower and her son, Aegon.

House of the Dragon season two is set to premiere later this year, some time in the summer, and UK viewers will be able to watch it on NOW TV.

Viewers and critics alike adored the first season of the show, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93 percent, and eight primetime Emmy nominations to boot.

DiscussingFilm critic Ron Hilliard raved in his four-star review of the show, saying: “The team behind House of the Dragon has done what was once thought unthinkable after the final season of Game of Thrones.

"[They] have created a Westeros that is rich and vibrant, firmly placing it within a different period, while also making it feel like the very best of the original series.

“House of the Dragon is very clearly made with care, by people who not only are deeply knowledgeable about George R.R. Martin’s stories and lore, but deeply love them as well.

"It will be difficult for even the most spurned among fans to not fall back into this world.”

The series is based on the 2018 book Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, a prequel set roughly 150 years prior to the events of Game of Thrones.

A 2013 book The Princess and The Queen focused solely on the lore of the 'Dance of the Dragons', the name given to the Targaryen civil war between Rhaenyra and her half-brother Aegon.

Focusing predominantly on the Targaryen family prior to their fall from the grace, House of the Dragon sees the dragons (and weird incest) of the Targaryen’s turned up to 11.

The first season of the show dealt with the power struggle within the family, starting by focusing on the conflict between brothers Viserys and Daemon, and finishing on a power struggle between Visery’s first-born daughter, Rhaenyra, and his second wife, Alicent Hightower.

A couple of first look posters dropped yesterday, displaying the stand-off within the family for all to see.

The cast (of those who made it through the murder-filled first season) is all set to return, with Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, and Steve Touissant all coming back for a second season, as well as Gayle Rankin joining the cast.

If the first season and now these two trailers are anything to go off, Westeros and stories in the Game of Thrones world are here to stay.
