*This article contains spoilers for The Boys season three episode six, Herogasm*

With a title like 'Herogasm' and pretty much every star of The Boys hyping it up before release, fans were hoping for a mind blowing experience.

Prior to the release of 'Herogasm', fans had been teased with an offering of sex and violence on a scale never before seen on TV.

Showrunner Eric Kripke had said the episode was 'illegal in four countries', and indeed it appears as though 'Herogasm' has been heavily censored in certain parts of the world.

Check out a trailer for the episode below:

Judging by the reaction fans have had to the episode on social media, it didn't disappoint at all.

Now it's out fans have been calling it the 'best episode ever' of The Boys, and some have even claimed it's 'one of the best episodes in the whole of modern television'.

'Herogasm' had been hyped up massively before release and it's impressive when an episode can not only meet but in many cases surpass the expectations of the fans.

Thousands of The Boys fans took to social media to rave about the episode after staying up to watch it as soon as it dropped on Amazon Prime.

They praised 'Herogasm' as a 'special episode' that was 'just fantastic all across the board', with one person calling it 'the quintessential episode of The Boys'.

Someone else said 'Herogasm' was proof that The Boys alone was worth the Amazon Prime subscription.

There was also plenty of praise for Homelander actor Antony Starr's performance in the episode as his character goes further off the deep end with each episode.

One person said Starr 'needs all the praise', while another said he ought to have 'all the awards'.

In the comics that the show is based on, 'Herogasm' was a spin-off miniseries showing audiences that once a year the world's superheroes would take a week off and spend it having a giant orgy.

The challenge was always going to be how to adapt it to TV without releasing an episode that's basically just porn, and The

Boys found a way to make it work.

There's plenty of nudity, depravity and sex in 'Herogasm', but the real draw of the episode is the emotional confrontations between several of our main characters. We finally get the much-anticipated showdown between evil narcissistic superman Homelander and superhero Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles).

Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Hughie (Jack Quaid) also get in on the action with their temporary superpowers, teaming up to take on Homelander.

On top of that, so many characters get their own emotional moments, making 'Herogasm' one of the most plot important episodes of The Boys.

Hilariously, they also managed to sneak in a parody of celebrities singing 'Imagine' shortly after the pandemic kicked off, a worthy follow up to their skewering of Kendall Jenner's cringeworthy Pepsi ad.

The Boys continues on Amazon Prime with new episodes releasing on Fridays.
