A brand-new documentary chronicling the infamous Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard defamation trial is set to hit our screens later this month.

Exploring one of the most-recognised celebrity trials of the decade, the two-part series will be comprised of an array of various sources including interviews with lawyers, journalists, legal experts as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the notorious trial.

The synopsis for the docuseries states: "The series gives a forensic account of the key evidence and turning points of the case from both sides, allowing viewers to make up their own minds about who to believe.”

The docuseries set to hit our screen later this month has been dubbed 'graphic'.

A press release from Discovery+ also reveals that the docuseries will convey 'in graphic detail the struggles inside the dysfunctional and turbulent A-list marriage'.

The first episode, predominantly centred around Depp, 59, delves into the actor's 'abusive childhood and drug dependencies'.

Alongside this, the investigation into the Pirates of the Caribbean star's side of events seeks to paint 'an alternative version of events that show Johnny to be a victim of domestic abuse himself'.

Juxtaposing this, the second episode revolves around Heard's account of the trial, which was held between April and June of this year.

The series will show 'in graphic detail the struggles inside the dysfunctional and turbulent A-list marriage'.

This will go into the depth of the Aquaman actress' 'detailed description of alleged sexual assault told on camera for the first time'.

Using press releases as a source, the episode will also explore the media response Heard faced as a result of the trial, specifically referencing how 'advocates of Depp mercilessly attacked her via social media'.

The public conflict between the pair started back in 2018, when Depp sued Heard for $50 million in a defamation lawsuit over op-ed piece published in The Washington Post titled: “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change”.

In response, Heard then filed a counter-lawsuit in which she sued the actor in a $100m counterclaim due to the alleged "smear campaign" he launched against her.

The docuseries follows one of the most-recognised celebrity trials of the decade.

After countless interviews, celebrity testimonies and social media speculation - the trial eventually came to an end when the jury sided with Johnny Depp.

The 59-year-old was awarded a hefty $10 million (£8 million) in compensation and $5 million (£4.3 million) in punitive damages while Heard was awarded just $2 million (£1.6 million) for her counterclaim against her ex-husband.

The two-part documentary Johnny vs Amber: The US trial will air on Tuesday 20 September on Discovery+.
