The Star Wars universe is set to expand once again thanks to the release of its latest series The Acolyte. Following mixed reactions to some of the other properties in the beloved franchise, such as Ahsoka, Obi Wan Kenobi and the latest season of The Mandalorian, the much anticipated show is reported to be the ‘the most dark and adult’ chapter of Star Wars yet.

And if you’re wondering how to watch The Acolyte or what it’s going to be about, we’ve got you covered.

The latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise takes us back hundreds of years.

The Acolyte is set to debut on June 4. And there’s only one way to watch it in the US – and globally – and that’s on Disney+.

If you’re not already signed up to the streaming platform, there are two different subscription plans to choose from, depending on your preference. The most budget-friendly option is the Disney+ Basic plan. Priced at $7.99 a month, it does include adverts. However, you can watch your favourite TV shows and movies on four screens at once, at no extra cost.

Fans will finally get to see the High Republic era on screen.

If you’d rather not have ads ruin the action, there’s Disney+ Premium, priced at $13.99 a month (or $139.99 a year). Not only does it not have ads but it also allows you to stream on four devices at once and supports 4K UHD & HDR video, compared to the standard 1080p Full HD video. There’s also the added benefit of unlimited downloads on up to 10 devices.

Whether you opt for the Basic or Premium plan, you can tune into Disney+ via their app on a range of laptops, tablets, phones, smart TVs, games consoles and streaming sticks. Or you can watch on the Disney+ web browser.

The trailer has already offered some glimpses of what to expect.

What is The Acolyte about?

Set hundreds of years before the original prequel trilogy, The Acolyte takes place during the High Republic era.

Up until now this time period has only been explored in some of the books and comics. So, this will be the first time that it gets the live action treatment.

The six-part series will see “an investigation into a shocking crime spree,” according to Disney, where a respected Jedi Master (played by Squid Game’s Lee Jung-jae) finds himself at odds with a dangerous Padawan warrior from his past (played by Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Amandla Stenberg).

“As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…”

The first two episodes of The Acolyte drop on Disney+ on June 4.
