Charlie Cox Says Nobody Cheered For His Return In Spider-Man: No Way Home

Charlie Cox returned as Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, in No Way Home - but nobody cheered in his screening.

While audiences cheered for the Spideys, Charlie Cox said it was 'dead f*cking quiet' during his scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

We're now more than two months on from one of the biggest movies of all time. There was unprecedented speculation surrounding No Way Home; more specifically, whether we'd see Tom Holland's webhead fighting alongside Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

I'd say spoiler warning, but this article is a spoiler in itself: yes, they came back, and it was absolutely incredible - probably the greatest high since Captain America caught Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame. Yet, there was one clap-worthy moment early on: the long-awaited return of Matt Murdock.

Cox played Murdock, aka the Man without Fear, in Netflix's Daredevil between 2015 and 2018. The streaming platform's other Defenders had decent shows, but Daredevil garnered substantial critical acclaim and a loyal following. It was cancelled after three seasons, and fans have been petitioning Marvel to bring Cox back ever since.

Their prayers were answered two-fold: Cox returned as Murdock (not in Daredevil mode, sadly) in No Way Home, briefly appearing as Peter Parker's lawyer after being framed for Mysterio's death and his identity being revealed; and Vincent D'Onofrio, who inimitably played Kingpin, reprised the role in Hawkeye.

When that cane comes into frame and slams the floor, I let out a loud whoop. When he catches that brick, we all shared a giddy, sharp intake of breath - it was a dream come true. It's such a small moment in the grand scheme of things, but unforgettable nonetheless.

Alas, during a recent interview with Radio Times, Cox revealed he didn't get to soak in the same euphoric atmosphere in his screening. 'It's funny, I got so many text messages and so many calls about that moment in the cinema. My nephew sent me a recording of everyone cheering,' he said.

'So I snuck into a movie theatre near where I live and literally stood in the corridor... and, sadly, my experience was it was dead f*cking quiet! I was so disappointed – my wife was with me and she was recording me, because it'd be fun to have that moment of everyone cheering, and then... tumbleweed!'

Cox couldn't divulge many details about what lies ahead for Daredevil in the MCU. 'I know something. I don't know much, but I know there will be something else,' he said.
