Viewers have been left heartbroken by Angela Bassett's reaction as she missed out on winning an Oscar.
The star had been nominated for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Academy Awards tonight (13 March) for her performance as Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
However, she lost out to Jamie Lee Curtis, who won the accolade for her portrayal in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted Bassett's reaction – or should we say non-reaction – to the announcement. Take a look:
In typical Oscars fashion, the camera focused on all five nominations, which also included Hong Chau for The Whale, Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin and Stephanie Hsu for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
When Curtis' name was read out, everyone cheered and clapped – aside from the 64-year-old MCU star, who sat still with a very slight smile on her face.
Over on Twitter, many people felt she'd been robbed of the award, with one writing: "Oscar’s definitely owes Angela Bassett reparations.
"#AngelaBassett I’m going to bed. Can’t stomach anymore of this grand larceny," said another, while a third added, "Angela Bassett didn't move, not a smile, not a haha, no reaction, NOTHING. Loved her energy."
Others said they felt 'heartbroken' by the events, including this person who wrote: "I love Jamie Lee Curtis. But seeing Angela Bassett's disappointment was heartbreaking. #Oscars."
A second chimed in: "I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but her winning over Angela Bassett and Stephanie Hsu is so heartbreaking. Currently recovering."
"Angela Bassett was absolutely robbed and that disappointment on her face was heartbreaking," added a third.
Regardless of whether she won or not, Bassett has been universally praised for her role in the anticipated sequel, which saw her take on an incredibly emotional task following the death of Chadwick Boseman.
She told IndieWire just before the film's release: “Life and art were hand in glove in the making of this movie.
“I was just so proud. Just so, so proud of us, as humans too, in the way that it was approached and carried out."
And Bassett already made Oscars history by becoming the first MCU actor to receive an Academy Award nomination.
Speaking to CNN after the exciting news broke, Bassett said: "This morning is a little extra special in the Bassett Vance household with news of my Oscar nomination.
“What has drawn me to each of the women I’ve portrayed throughout my career is their strength, compassion, resilience, and power.
"Wakanda Forever’s Queen Ramonda is a character that touched my spirit because she is a mother and a leader who must care for her grieving nation as much as she cares for her family in mourning.
"Ramonda is a love letter that reflects and acknowledges what we women do everyday."
