Andy Serkis says Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will 'blow people's minds'

The actor who previously played Caesar will be able to enjoy the franchise as a fan for the first time in over a decade.

Andy Serkis says Kingdom of the Apes is ‘going to blow people’s minds’.

The actor - who previously played the leader of the tribe of enhanced apes, Caesar - will be able to enjoy the franchise as a fan for the first time in over a decade.

While speaking to CinemaBlend, the British actor shared his new thoughts on the upcoming science fiction flick, which will be under the eye of director, Wes Ball, who led the Mazerunner franchise.

He said: “I think Wes Ball is going to do an amazing job with this film.

"I think it’s, from what I’ve heard and what I’ve seen, there’s some amazing conceptual artwork where they’ve chosen to land the story and take off with the next iteration, I think it’s gonna blow people’s minds.”

The film definitely sounds like a mammoth of a project as it's been in development since 2019.

I mean, that's no Avatar 2 or Boyhood, but still a long time considering most movies take almost a year or two to make.

The movie will take place years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, where many apes have emerged in the oasis where Ceasar led them.

While the king ape is now dead, his legacy lives on as primates rule over the humans, who have regressed into a feral state.

However, one ape, in particular, uses the teachings of Caesar to enslave other clans in search of the last traces of secret human technology, while another ape embarks on a journey to find freedom side by side with a young girl.

Owen Teague plays Cornelius, the son of Caesar, who is joined by Freya Allan, who is most well known for her role in Netflix’s The Witcher, Peter Macon (The Orville), Eka Darville (Jessica Jones) and Kevin Durand from the FX series, The Strain.

Last month, Ball announced that production had finally wrapped in Sydney, where they had been filming since October, with much of the script being written during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He posted a video of a green screen that showed animated apes and the crew applauding.

“Alright guys, the adventure's over, say goodbye guys,” he said in the 24-second clip.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled to be released May 24, 2024.
