A new gory horror film is being described as the 'movie of the year'

A new horror film has dropped, which is being described by some as the ‘best movie of the year’.

With buckets of blood, gore aplenty, and an awesome premise – we can’t wait to get to the cinema after work and give it a watch.

The trailer is absolutely great too, and leaves you wanting nothing more than to watch it straight away – give it a watch here:

The film is Abigail, which follows a group of criminals who ‘kidnap’ the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful figure in the underworld.

When it’s too late though, the criminals realise they are trapped in a mansion with a vampire – who is actually the 12-year-old in question.

The film has a stacked cast, with Kathryn Newton and Melissa Barrera both having starred in brilliant horror films recently, Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito playing a brilliantly creepy role, and newcomer Alisha Weir as the genuinely terrifying vampire.

Added to that is a bittersweet bit of casting, as Abigail was Euphoria star Angus Cloud’s last role before he tragically passed away in July of last year.

And it appears that the film has been well received - with one IMDb review dubbing it the 'movie of the year', with an 'intense and gripping storyline' to boot.

Adding: "Overall, "Abigail" is a must-watch for fans of suspenseful thrillers and psychological dramas. With its gripping storyline, atmospheric setting, and stellar performances, it's sure to leave a lasting impression on audiences."

Debuting to an 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Tessa Smith of Mama’s Geeky said: “An absolutely insane, bloody, campy, gore filled fun fest. Probably the best time at the movies this entire year.

“See it in a packed theater!”

While Meagan Navarro from horror film-focused website Bloody Disgusting said:

“With an insane commitment to arterial spray, Abigail winds up another crowd-pleaser from [directors] Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett. It’s poised to deliver the most fun you’ll have at the movies this year.”

Screenrant went even further, saying it ‘may become one of the greatest vampire movies of all time’.

They went on to say: “Abigail provides an extremely bloody, fun, humorous & fresh take on the subgenre.

“Radio Silence brings not just one of the most fun movies of the year, but also one of the best crowd-pleasing horror entries in recent memory.

“Abigail is the perfect example of why we go to the movies: Jaw-dropping gore and effects, thrilling and unexpected performances, moments that make us jump, shocking twists, and an unforgettable ending are all present and tick the boxes of what makes an incredible popcorn flick.”

Radio Silence, the name attributed to directorial pair Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, have also directed Scream 6 and Ready or Not.

Add to the mix Abigail, and they look set to be one of the most iconic horror names of our generation.

Abigail will be available in cinemas worldwide on April 19.
