A troubling TikTok video appearing to mock Americans has gone viral with thousands of views and shares in the wake of Donald Trump's decision to impose hefty tariffs on multiple countries across the globe.

Trump first announced exactly how much tax he would be charging on imports on April 2, when he detailed his ideas on what he dubbed 'Liberation Day', but his actions didn't stop there.

In the following days, Trump went on to increase the tariffs against China in particular to a staggering 104 percent, with his decision to hike the charge coming after China hit back with retaliatory tariffs of its own.

The tariffs officially come into effect today (April 9), but people from all over the world have already been making their thoughts on the move very clear.

One particular viral video appears to present a look at what life in America could allegedly look like after Trump's tariffs take hold, and it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

Shared by a TikTok user who goes by the handle @axiang67, the video which appears to be created by artificial intelligence shows a number of people, many of who are overweight, sitting at sewing machines as they work to make clothing in a factory.

Later in the clip, a line of different, unhappy-looking workers can be seen constructing mobile phones.

The clip comes to an end with the words 'Make America Great Again'; a quote taken straight from Trump's presidential campaign and a more recent reference to one of his comments about the tariffs, which he has claimed will 'Make America Wealthy Again'.

The video has so far been viewed more than 629,000 times as well as being shared across the internet, where it's garnered mixed responses from viewers.

Many praised the clip, with one writing: "Amazing. Genius video."

Another commented: "this was brilliant. for the Trump crowd you kind of have to use pictures for them to understand."

However, others hit back at the accuracy of the video, arguing Trump's tariffs wouldn't result in more Americans working in factories.

"The goal is not to bring these low skilled jobs back to the US, but have China buy more US goods to offset a 300 bln and counting yearly trade imbalance. Stay accurately informed!," one viewer claimed.

Another added of the US: "Don’t they already have robots for most of that work?"

A third view came from TikTokers who saw the video as a concern for what the future could hold for the US, with one commenting: "Look at them living the American dream! It's what they want. Us uneducated and working low wage factory jobs. 14 billionaires on [Trump's] staff and you think they've got your interest in mind."

"Be careful what you ask for," added another.

Trump has stood by his decision to impose the tariffs, describing them as a 'beautiful thing to behold'.
