Flight attendant reveals what you should ask for upgrade with ‘99% success rate'

Her tips are at least worth giving a go next time you are in the airport

Getting upgraded to first class is a dream not many of us are lucky enough to live... but one flight attendant claims to have the perfect method to get this to happen.

The internet is full of hints, tips and tricks - many of which don’t actually work, mind you. But this one might be worth giving it a go since the person claims to be a flight attendant.

TikToker @cierra_mistt claims that there is a method that has a ‘99 percent’ success rate. Now I might take that with a touch of salt but it still has got me excited to try next time i'm traveling by plane.

In a video shared on her page back in 2023, Mistt broke down to her social media followers the two methods they can try for themselves.

She said: "One thing the airlines don't want you to know is that for the majority of flights, we have to move people for weight and balance purposes.

"When we move people all the way up to the front it's not just because we are being nice, but normally if our flight is full we have to move people.

"If that's the case, the flight attendants are going to choose the people in the very last row to go up front, because then they can sit down there after doing their service."

So, sitting at the back might sound like the worst idea, it could result in you being upgraded. Definitely worth a try if you decide to pick your seat before you fly.

When it comes to the second method, Cierra says it has a '99 per cent success rate', again pinch of salt.

First off, she recommends listening out to find out if your flight is full. If this is the case, the attendant on the gate will often ask for volunteers to switch flights.

Often, there'll be freebies or discounts in return - but Mistt advises not accepting these.

Instead, she recommends: "First go to the gate agent, second give them a price and say that you want that in cash.

"When the gate agent is rebooking you for that next flight, make sure that they put you in first class to compensate for the time that you're losing."

Now some people stood by her recommendations and said they were even upgraded to business class. However, some said it simply didn’t work and they had the annoyance of watching everyone brush past them to get to the bathroom.

Are you going to give it a go?
