A body language expert has lifted the lid on how to tell if someone is disagreeing with you, and the signs can be really subtle.

We already know actions speak louder than words, and how our bodies move when we're deep in conversation with someone can give away a lot more than we want it to.

Even if the person you're chatting to is nodding away in agreement, you might have an inkling that you don't exactly see eye-to-eye on the matter and might walk away feeling dismissed.

Now, a British body language expert has revealed there is one tell-tale sign that a person is trying to hide their disapproval.

Adrianne Carter often posts her 'lie detector' tips and tricks to her 620,000 TikTok followers - and her video about how to spot a hater has caught the eyes of four million.

In the viral video, she started by explaining it's all about finger placement.

She placed her left hand just below her chin and pointed her index finger towards her ear, which is clearly so subtle it could easily be missed.

But she warns to keep an eye out for the move, as she said someone putting their finger on their face in this way indicates that they're listening to you.

Adrianne said: "Notice where my hand and my finger is on my face.

"You might see this in a meeting or you're interacting with someone - they're thinking about what you're saying."

However, she warns if the finger moves, it is probably a sign that they've processed what you've said and aren't really on board.

She continued: "As the finger gets higher up the face, it tells us that they're thinking but they're also not really approving or liking what's been said.

"So watch for that finger - how far high does it go up the face?"

Adrianne, who also released non-fiction book The Face Whisperer in 2018, apparently hit a nerve with her fans who watched the video and said her insight is 'interesting' but found the finger-moving trick 'intimidating'.

However, dozens also confessed they often use the tactic without realizing and now feel 'paranoid'.

A TikTok user commented: "It for me means that I'm getting fed up and wish they would get on with it coz I'm bored."

Another joked: "I do this but I'm just trying to hide my double chin."

Some also criticized Adrianne's analysis, writing that body language 'is not always accurate' and might differ from person to person based on their culture or background.

Meanwhile, others said they spotted some business pros on the TV show, Dragons' Den, the UK version of Shark Tank, sit similarly.

"They do that a lot on Dragons' Den. I can't wait to watch another episode and try to anticipate their vote," another penned.

While Adrianne admits she's 'not a mind reader', her website reveals she's more than qualified with more than 25 years in counselling, psychotherapy, neurolinguistics and psychology, meaning she can cut through 'body language, facial expression and unspoken cues.'

She says she's worked with clients from Australia to Russia and from Japan to the US, including Apple and Coca-Cola.
