Akon defends Nick Cannon for having 12 children

The rapper defended Canon in a heated interview on The Zeze Mills Show

Akon has spoken out in defence of Nick Cannon for having so many kids, and things got pretty heated.

Cannon, 42, announced he was expecting his 12th child earlier this month, with the TV presenter already father to 11 children with six mothers, including twins he co-parents with Mariah Carey.

Of course, having so many kids has left the star concerned he doesn’t spend enough time with them all, and he opened up about this on The Checkup with Dr. David Angus.

“Being a father of multiple kids, it’s always the biggest guilt on me, is that I don’t get to spend enough time with all my children,” Cannon admitted.

“One ‘cause I’m constantly working, and two because I’m just spread thin.”

Now, rapper Akon - who also has a large brood of his own, with nine kids - has spoken out against claims that Cannon has too many kids.

Appearing on The Zeze Mills Show, the star was asked: "Do you agree with Nick Cannon and his spreading of his seed?"

Not holding back, Akon responded: “100 percent, I agree with him 1000 percent. That’s how life is supposed to be. Why not? He’s rich, he’s responsible.

“He takes care of every one of those children, and the baby mothers with it, and they hurt for nothing and they live comfortably.”

However, host Zeze wasn’t having any of it, responding with: “This what I mean about men, right. You guys think that just having kids and giving money is enough. But what about the time?”

And it didn’t take long for things to get a little heated.

Doubling down on his point, Akon clapped back: “Are you serious? Nick is there for every single one of those kids.

“I’ve got nine and I’m there for every one of mine.”

It didn’t end there, either.

When quizzed over if he attends every one of his children’s recitals, Akon replied: “No, that’s a white man’s thing. Who gives a f**k about a recital?

"Seriously, my job is to raise my kids, to be responsible, to be understanding, to protect their mother, to give [a] hand and assist with family planning and be a responsible adult.

“My job isn’t to be doing all that extra stuff, all these holidays and recitals and all that.

"While I’m taking care of my responsibilities to make sure that my family have a roof over their head and food, if I have the time to show love, yes I will do that.

"But my responsibility is to make sure they grow up responsible, strong, and become an input to society.”

In response, Zeze began: “But if you’re not around them enough to give them…” before Akon interrupted her to say: “That’s false, no, that’s not true. Communication allows me to be there every day. That’s what FaceTime and phone is for.

“The reason why people like me can’t spend every day and minute with their children is because the mother’s job is to be there with the children.”

Cannon shares twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-wife Mariah Carey as well as sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon and daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell.

The star is also father to twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin with Abby De La Rosa; son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi; and daughter Onyx Ice Cole with LaNisha Cole.

Cannon and Alyssa Scott’s son Zen sadly passed away at five months old in December 2021 after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Scott is now expecting the star’s 12th child.
