The View/ABCThe View fans have criticised Whoopi Goldberg for asking her co-star a very personal question while live on air.

Goldberg was on The View panel yesterday, Thursday, September 14, alongside Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Alyssa Farah Griffin when the group were discussing politics - Mitt Romney in particular.

They were all deep in conversation, when Goldberg all of a sudden looked across the table at Griffin and asked her a question.

"Are you pregnant?" she quizzed.

Taken aback by her question, Griffin replied: "No! Oh my god!"

Laughing nervously, she went on: "You can't say that in front of my mother-in-law who has been dying for me to get pregnant!"

Echoing similar sentiments, one of Goldberg's co-stars said: "You can't ask that."

When Griffin asked if she looked pregnant, Goldberg said yes and that she 'got a vibe' from the presenter.

Someone asked if she meant that Griffin had a certain 'glow' about her as the 34-year-old political strategist sighed in relief thinking that Goldberg meant she had a baby bump.

The Sister Act star proceeded to apologise to Griffin as she continued to laugh uncomfortably while appearing to look at her mother-in-law in the audience in the undeniably awkward interaction.

Hostin then chimed in asking if they could 'take votes' on if Griffin was pregnant as the group grew excited at the prospect of their colleague having a child.

"I'm very open to being pregnant soon. I am not blessed to be pregnant yet," Griffin insisted.

"My husband and I are thinking about it."

She added that she's 'pretty sure' that she's not currently expecting.

Doubling down on Griffin having a 'glow', Goldberg went on to add: "Forgive me. I just— I see a glow."

With this in mind, she went on to promise that she'd take a pregnancy test when she got home.

While Griffin took the awkward question very well, The View fans have hit out at Goldberg for her remarks.

"‘WTH……Now why would Whoopi embarrass Alyssa like that? Some things shouldn’t be blurred out on live TV. #theview," one X-user wrote on what was formerly Twitter.

"This is not something you ask on live television in front of an audience. Omg," another added.

A third went on: "Whoopi was so inappropriate by asking this very personal question."

Someone else went as far as hailing Goldberg as a 'mess'.

Whoopi Goldberg said Alyssa had a 'glow'.

"This is so wrong. Whoopi is a mess," they penned.

"Even if she were pregnant, she would have forced her to announce with that question. She could ask during break or before the start of the show.

"Such a disgusting behavior."

Griffin has gone on to address the matter on the Behind The Table podcast and said that she took Goldberg's comments as a 'compliment'.

She said: "Whoopi, she thinks out loud sometimes, and I chose to take it as a compliment - that I’m glowing. She’s so sweet."

Griffin added that Goldberg further apologised to her once the show had ended.

Goldberg's representatives have been contacted for comment.
