Miley Cyrus’ brother responded to a fan's question on Instagram and shared how he feels being part of a famous family has been to his detriment.

Trace, 34, is a musician like many other members of the Cyrus clan, but believes he would have been 'much more successful' if he didn’t have famous relatives…ouch!

Trace’s sister, Miley Cyrus, is arguably the most notorious member of her family, second to their father American country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus.

Surely having two mega stars in your bloodline would work in your favour, no?

The solo artist claimed he signed a record deal before Miley ever found fame on Disney Channel as the iconic Hannah Montana, and explained how he never used his last name to his advantage.

His comments came after an Instagram Q&A session on Monday, where he was asked by a fan: “Is it hard being in a family that is in the spotlight?”

In response, he said: “I love my family so much but I think I would be much more successful if I wasn’t part of a famous family.

“I never put my last name online anywhere for the first years of my career.

“When my band started taking off, Miley had just started Hannah Montana so people weren’t even familiar with it.

“I was touring in other countries when people didn’t even know who Miley was and they definitely didn’t expect me to be the son of a country music singer.”

In another question, a fan asked: “Why don't you ever make a VMA or Big Music Appearance? Not to bug.”

Trace replied: "Mmmm I feel like the people in charge of the music industry hate me.

"Even when Shake It was one of the biggest songs in the world we never got invited to those kind of events or had any award nominations."

    Yikes.

Trace was adopted by Billy Rae Cyrus in 1993

Trace isn’t the biological son of Billy Ray Cyrus, his biological father is Baxter Neal Helson.

And he also wasn’t born Trace, his name at birth was Neil.

When his mum Tish Cyrus and Billy got married, Billy adopted Trace and the couple changed his name in 1993.

Between 2006-2017, Trace dipped in and out of being in pop-rock band Metro Station.

But since his departure, he has been working on building himself as a solo artist, and released his first EP in 2021 called Killing the Pain.
