Game of Thrones actor Thor Bjornsson has shared the sad news that he and his wife have had a stillbirth.

Bjornsson announced the news on Instagram today (10 November), following the baby's delivery on 8 November.

The actor, who already shares one child with his wife, Kelsey Henson, wrote that the parents decided to name their daughter Grace Morgan Hafthorsdottir, and that she was delivered at 21 and a half weeks.

"It is with great sorrow that we announce the birth of our daughter," Bjornsson said in a post on Instagram, which featured a picture of himself and Henson in hospital.

He continued: "After a noticeable decrease in movement we found out her heart had stopped beating. Words cannot describe our pain of this loss or our happiness at being able to spend time with our daughter."

Bjornsson said Grace was 'absolutely beautiful', describing her 'blonde lashes and brows and a little smile for mom and dad'.

"The love we feel for her is overwhelming. The grief we feel will be with us forever but so will the love," he continued.

"All of our hopes and dreams for her have been taken away from us but I know I will be with her again. Her spirit lives on through us and her siblings. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time as we grieve this unbearable loss. Thank you all for any kind words and support."

The update on the couple's pregnancy comes just weeks after they first announced they were expecting a second child together.

Thor and Kelsey announced their pregnancy in October.

As well as the three-year-old son, Stormur, who he shares with Henson, Björnsson is also dad to a daughter named Theresa Líf, who he shares with his ex-girlfriend, Thelma Björk Steimann.

Björnsson and Henson married in October 2018 in the actor's home country of Iceland.

Following the wedding, Björnsson shared a picture of himself and his new partner and wrote: "It is with great pleasure that I now get to call Kelsey Morgan Henson my wife!"

As well as working as an actor and being best known for his role as Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane on Game of Thrones, Björnsson is also a professional strongman.
