The Rock brutally slams one of his own movies to insult opponent during return to WWE

The movie didn't do great at the box office

Dwayne Johnson has starred in dozens on blockbuster movies since ditching WWE two decades ago.

From Jumanji and Red Notice, to Moana and Rampage, a lot of Johnson's films has smashed box office records.

But there's one that didn't do quite as well as the others - despite having still raked in millions of dollars.

Back in 2017, Johnson starred in a remake of Baywatch (yes, there were lots of red swimming costumes involved).

The film featured Hollywood's golden boy Zac Efron, as well as Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

While Baywatch already boasted a huge name for itself, the remake didn't do as well as hoped.

It still raked in an admirable $175,863,783 at the worldwide box office - but compared to Johnson's other movies, it didn't even make the top ten in terms of success.

For those of you who are curious, the highest grossing movie that Johnson has starred in 2015's Fast 7. The seventh instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise raked in a staggering $1,511,986,364 at the global box office.

With Baywatch being less of a moneymaker for the wrestler-turned-actor, Johnson made a dig at it while trash talking Jinder Mahal.

Making his return to the WWE ring for the first time in years in a surprise appearance yesterday (January 1), Johnson, 51, interrupted Mahal's speech and started reeling off the insults.

"If The Rock had to guess why you’re so angry, it’s probably because no one likes you and you’re not funny," Johnson said to his fellow wrestling veteran at yesterday's WWE Raw.

"As a matter of fact, if you were one of The Rock’s movies, you would probably be Baywatch."

After Mahal said he'd never seen the film, Johnson retorted: "Well, nobody else did either."

"Shut your mouth when The Rock is talking to you," he went on.

The Rock compared Jinder Mahal to his 'not funny' movie, Baywatch.

The crowd were going wild for Johnson, proving that there's still very much a fanbase for the wrestler - who first left WWE back in 2004.

Johnson's wrestling return has long been teased, and before exiting the ring yesterday, he appeared to call out his next opponent.

"I'm gonna go get something to eat," he explained to the crowd. "Should The Rock sit in a booth? Or should The Rock sit at the bar? Or should The Rock sit... at the head of the table?"

His remarks were a clear call out to Roman Reigns, the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion who is nicknamed 'Head of the Table'.

There are rumors that the pair will go head-to-head in the ring at WrestleMania 40, but this it yet to be confirmed.
