Rapper Nelly was arrested Wednesday morning (August 7) in St. Louis, Missouri.

According to online arrest records, he was arrested at 4:45 am after leaving the Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights near St. Louis.

The rapper was stopped for ID verification by the Missouri Gaming Commission, but was subsequently arrested for a previous warrant he had under his name.

The 'Hot in Herre' singer, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., reportedly had an outstanding warrant for failing to obtain car insurance.

This comes after it was announced that Nelly and 'Foolish' hitmaker Ashanti are engaged and expecting their first child together. After years of a whirlwind romance, the two appear to be finally having their happy ending as a couple.

After announcing her pregnancy on Instagram, Ashanti spoke to Essence about her relationship with Nelly, confirming the engagement rumours.

She said: "This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,

"Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience."
