Luke Combs gives honest reason why he is refusing to use GLP-1 drugs for weight loss

Luke Combs has opened up about why he decided against using GLP-1 drugs for weight loss.

The country star spoke to the New York Times podcast Popcast about his relationship with his body image, including the ways that he has thought about losing weight.

GLP-1 drugs have seen an explosion in popularity as a weight loss treatment.

Although originally licensed as a treatment for diabetes, another effect of the medication is as an appetite suppressant, and combined with a healthy diet and exercise this can be a big asset for people wanting to lose weight.

While the treatment is becoming more popular, Combs revealed that despite struggling with his body image, he has decided against using GLP-1 medication for his own weight loss for a specific reason.

“I have always struggled with my weight,” he told hosts Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli. “It bugs me a lot that I can’t figure it out.

"I don’t want my life to be this life of like, ease and like, everything’s easy. I like when stuff’s hard.”

But another reason that he shared with the podcast for avoiding the medication was that he was worried about the effects.

“As dumb as that sounds, that stuff scares me more than I think that I would enjoy the benefits of,” he said.

Combs opened up about how he worries that his appearance might also impact on his career as well.

“One of my biggest fears is like, man, maybe I don’t get a shot just ‘cause of the way I look,” he said.

"You know what I mean? And like, that was a hard pill to swallow, because you can’t really change the way you look.”

The musician went on to explain that he didn't want to take 'the short way'.

He said: “No matter how hard I try, it’s just been like this impossible nut to crack for me. And I will do it, but I’m not going to do it the short way.

“And not that there’s anything wrong with that. That’s personal for you. I need to win, like, I need to beat myself.”

Combs prevously opened up about the broadening appeal of country music, including across the pond in the UK where he had toured.

"There's a lot of hype going on," he told the BBC. "They've never done anything like this before.

"Playing at the Royal Albert Hall is a bucket list for me, and to play the Opry at the Royal Albert Hall will be insane. It's like two epic things combined into one."
