Josh Duhamel reveals why he 'outgrew' his marriage to Fergie

Shotgun Wedding actor Josh Duhamel split from Fergie in 2017

Shotgun Wedding actor Josh Duhamel has spoken out about the breakdown of his marriage with Fergie after the pair announced their split in September 2017.

Duhamel and Fergie, whose real name is Stacy Ann Ferguson, were married for eight years before they decided to go their separate ways, and together they share one child, son Axl Jack.

They met almost 20 years ago in 2004, when Fergie and the Black Eyed Peas made an appearance on the set of Duhamel's show Las Vegas.

The actor went on to marry former Miss World America Audra Mari after he and Fergie broke up, but during an appearance on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast this week he made clear he has 'no hard feelings' with his ex-wife.

“There wasn’t anything wrong with [our relationship],” Duhamel, 50, said.

After eight years of marriage, Duhamel said the pair simply grew apart as they didn't always stand on common ground.

“We had a great time. I think we kind of outgrew each other and had very different interests," he said.

Duhamel noted that being in the spotlight, both as a Hollywood star himself and through being in a high-profile relationship, resulted in added strain.

"I don’t think I ever really got comfortable with all of it," Duhamel said. "I just missed the simplicity of who I really am.

"I'm just not a guy who is comfortable going to red carpets, doing all the Hollywood stuff."

In an attempt to get back to his true self, Duhamel recalled debating whether he and Fergie could move together to his home state of North Dakota.

However, he realised the life he wanted wasn't right for the singer, who was born and raised in Southern California.

“I’ve got no hard feelings for it. I truly don’t,” he said.

Duhamel told Bensinger he's 'made peace' with what happened with Fergie, and said he's 'very lucky' that she's a 'kind human'.

The pair still co-parent Axl Jack together, and last month Duhamel told USA Today it was 'really important' for both parents to do what's best for their son.

"It was really important both for she and I to make sure that we put aside (our) differences for his benefit. Fergie has been great," he explained.

"She's a really good mom to Axl, and we just have a good working relationship as far as raising our son together. I'm actually really, really lucky because I've seen cases that aren't like that."

Duhamel now lives with Mari, with who he is expecting his second child, at a lake house in North Dakota.
