Johnny Depp deletes picture of ‘him and Robert Downey Jr.’ after people expose he'd been edited into it

Johnny Depp has deleted the picture after many noticed online it had been edited.

Johnny Depp has deleted a picture of ‘him and Robert Downey Jr.’ after people exposed it wasn't real.

Downey Jr. claimed his first ever Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards on Sunday (March 10), after winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

Playing former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Lewis Strauss, Downey Jr brought an intensity that many believed matched Cillian Murphy’s J Robert Oppenheimer.

In his acceptance speech, the Iron Man actor said: "Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me.

"Chris [Nolan] knew it, [producer Emma Thomas] made sure the she surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time."

Paying tribute to his co-stars, Downey Jr. added: "Emily [Blunt], Cillian [Murphy], Matt [Damon]... it was fantastic and I stand here before you a better man because of it.

"You know, what we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important."

Many fans have felt the Oscar was well deserved, with many voicing their approval at the award on social media.

Depp was one of those to celebrate Downey Jr.'s Oscars win on social media but has since had to retract the image he shared.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star posted a snap of himself and Downey Jr. to his Instagram stories on Sunday to extend his congratulations to his longtime pal.

However, the snap was a digitally altered image of the two stars, with many fans noticing the Photoshop fail.

The snap, which appears to be from a fan site, is a manipulated picture from 1988 of Downey Jr. with his then-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker.

Depp, on the other hand, was absent from the photo all-together.

By the looks of it, the edited picture was created by a fan and has been circulating for a few years, so Depp may not even have realised it was fake.

The actor quickly substituted the image with an authentic photograph of him and Downey Jr. at the Golden Globes in 2011.

"Let’s try this again…congrats to my dear friend," he said in a caption.

However, the damage was certainly done, as one Twitter user shared the fake snap and the original.

It comes as Downey Jr. was involved with his own controversy at the Oscars for appearing to ignore Ke Huy Quan while accepting his Oscar.

The Oppenheimer star arrived onto the stage and collected the statuette from Quan - there was very little interaction.

There was no typical handshake, while many online pointed out that Downey Jr didn't even appear to may eye contact with Quan after accepting the accolade.
