At the peak of his powers, Hulk Hogan once accidentally knocked out a TV presenter live on air and was forced to hand over $400,000 for doing so.

In the mid 80s, Hogan was the guy when it came to professional wrestling and was known all around the world.

Standing at 6'7" and 300 lbs, there is no wonder that WWE founder Vince McMahon used to call him 'monster'.

However, his strength got the better of him in 1985 when he unintentionally sent TV host Richard Belzer to the hospital with nine stitches.

Watch below:

At the time, Hogan and Mr. T were doing some promotional work in the lead-up to WrestleMania, where they were set to take on Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in the main event.

On 27 March, 1985, the duo made an appearance on Hot Properties, hosted by comedian Richard Belzer, who passed away in February of this year at the age of 78.

Tensions were high during the show as Belzer was clearly not getting along with Mr. T.

As the evening went on, the comedian then decided to challenge Hogan to a wrestling move.

The WWE legend reluctantly decided to put Belzer in a chin lock and - within seconds - he was knocked out cold.

His head hit the floor before his body and Belzer was knocked unconscious for a few seconds.

There was initially complete silence in the room when the TV host got straight back up and said that the programme was heading to commercial.

After the break, Hogan sort of apologized for the incident as Belzer did not return to the studio.

"You know, I feel really bad about the situation," Hogan said.

"Richard asked me to demonstrate a professional wrestling hold and that's exactly what I did.

"I (put) what is called a front chin lock on the man and when I released it he fell and hit his head on the floor.

"It's a situation where you need to be a professional at all time and the type of hold that I would put on a professional wrestler, I would apply probably 10 times as much pressure.

"I didn't realize that apparently he doesn't do any kind of physical training at all."

In 1990 Belzer told radio host Roy Firestone: "He came very close to killing me.

"I was told by a sports medicine expert that if I had fallen a few inches either way I could have been crippled for life, I could have been dead."

Belzer allegedly filed a lawsuit against Hogan, Mr. T, Vince McMahon, and WWE, according to Fox News. The two parties reportedly settled the lawsuit out of court for $400,000 in 1990.
