Britney Spears gagged fans when she announced at random on social media that she's adopted a baby girl - but there's more than meets the eye to her statement.
Spears, already a mom-of-two, took to Instagram to announce she's welcomed a daughter into her brood, though was quite short on the details.
The 'Toxic' hitmaker posted a video dancing in a pink one piece, black hat and black boots, writing in the caption: "I haven’t worked out in years so I put this little pink one piece on and PLAYED!!! How are you beautiful people this morning ???"
She then went on to casually make her adoption claim, adding: "I need coffee and I want to let you guys know I adopted a beautiful baby girl!!! Her name is Lennon London Spears!!!"

Spears then said Lennon was sporting her own 'adorable dress' though apparently had some unusual choice of words emblazoned on, as the Hollywood celeb said it read: "I’m NEW HERE !!! SO PLEASE STOP TALKING TRASH AMERICA !!!"
The infamous 43-year-old Princess of Pop then ended her post by claiming she's now 'decided to move to Italy.'
Social media has since been awash with the news, with fans gagged by the announcement.
"The concept of being adopted by Britney f**king Spears," said one on Twitter, to which another replied: "Hate seeing others live my dream."
"She deserves this so much," wrote another fan, "she had truly the kindest and most beautiful soul in the world."
A third added: "Love seeing queen of pop happy and doing new things, the baby is very lucky because Britney is the sweetest person I’ve ever seen!"
However, others were skeptical about the announcement, particularly as Spears is known for pulling her fans' leg from time to time - and the fact her post was laden with wink and laughing emojis.
Now, the rumor mill has seemingly been put to bed, as according to Rolling Stone, the music artist did not adopt a child as indicated by the emojis in her post.
The outlet wrote the overkill of joking emojis 'may have been a good indicator that she wasn't serious'.
TMZ, Billboard and E! News also say they've confirmed Spears' wasn't actually telling the truth about growing her family.
Despite it appearing unlikely Spears has a (human) baby girl under her wings, fans continue to speculate that she could have actually been referring to a new 'fur baby', as in an animal.
"My girl loves to troll the public and they always take her word as fact so long as it’s Britney Spears saying it," one fan wrote on Twitter, "cause for all we know, she could‘ve gotten a pet and we’re sitting here fighting for nothing. If she did adopt a child COOL if not COOL cause Britney can do no wrong."
TMZ, however, reports she hasn't got a new pet either.
Spears has also been spending more quality of time with her actual children, 19-year-old Sean and 18-year-old Jayden whom she shares with ex-husband, Kevin Federline.
The star initially lost custody of her kids and became estranged from them for some time as she battled her conservatorship, and now appears to be making up for lost time.
Her reunion with her youngest began back in December as Spears said it was the first time she'd seen him in two years.
