Bill Hader has opened up about getting the sack from one of his first jobs in hilarious, yet controversial, way.

The comedian, who enjoyed a hugely successful eight-year stint on Saturday Night Live (SNL), made the shock admission while appearing as a guest on Netflix's Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney.

"I was working in a movie theatre, and Titanic hadn’t come out yet, and a sorority had bought out the movie theatre," he recounted.

“And they were in the doorway and I was going, ‘Hey, guys. Can you guys move?’ They were making fun of me, they said I looked like Charles Manson - which I kind of did.

"I had a little bowtie on and cummerbund, and I was like, ‘Hey guys, please move.’ And they were like, ‘No'."

Before getting to the punchline: "So when they went in, as I tore the tickets, I was like, ‘Enjoy the movie. The boat sinks at the end. Leo dies'. And they were like, ‘No, he doesn’t'. I go, ‘Yeah, you think he’s asleep. But he’s frozen'. And that showed them."

The actor teased the story with: "I got fired from a movie theatre for ruining the end of Titanic."

Yes, hilariously, a young Hader actually ruined movie-goers' evening, and although I would never condone spoilers, it's a nice end to the story.

The 46-year-old added: "The guy came down smiling, and he was like, ‘Hey, Bill. I have to fire you'. He loved it. Couldn’t look me in the eye, though."

That was 27 years ago, and Hader's certainly gotten over the axing - although the same probably can't be said for the sorority group who visited the theater for the epic 1997 film, which starred Kate Winslet as Rose Dewitt Bukater, and Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack Dawson.

Roughly seven years after the incident, he joined up with SNL, with the HBO Barry actor a staple of the show up until his departure in 2013.

Hader has previously revealed to Variety the reason for leaving was because he was 'consumed with work and anxiety'.

The comedian explained how he didn't feel comfortable with the show's live element until five seasons in - and began suffering panic attacks both on and offstage.

Ultimately, he left SNL after the birth of his and now ex-wife Maggie Carey's second child.

He told the publication at the time he doesn't watch his own SNL sketches back.

“Any time someone says things to me that I don’t understand, I go, ‘Did I say that on SNL?’” he said.

“I never saw any of the stuff I did. I think a nanny showed my kids Stefon, or the Californians or something.

"They came in and were like, ‘Dad, look at this'. I was like, ‘Oh, yeah. There I am'.”
