Ben Affleck explains why he doesn't want his three children to enter the acting world

While Ben Affleck has made a name for himself in Hollywood, he apparently doesn't want his children following in his footsteps.

Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and 13-year-old Samuel not only have their father in the world of acting, but their mother, Jennifer Garner, is also a big name in film.

The former couple, who divorced in 2015 after ten years of marriage, may have thought about their kids taking a similar career path, but Affleck is hoping his offspring stay well clear of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

The 53-year-old spoke to E! News at the premiere of his latest project, The Rip, where he revealed how he doesn't expect either Violet, Seraphina, or Samuel to follow in his footsteps.

"You put something on your children when you have a public life and that's complicated," the actor said. "We really want to give them room to figure out what they want to do."

Affleck continued: "I wouldn't push them into that. They're brilliant and lovely and wonderful and we love them and we're proud of them." The actor then joked that he hopes his children 'don't waste their life acting'.

The Good Will Hunting star went on to explain how his children's upbringing has been very different to his, which is somewhat of a blessing in disguise.

"In some way, it was kind of a blessing to anonymity, to struggle, to where we started, which was just in the middle of nowhere," he added.

Garner has previously spoken out how her children have been fully aware of their parents' careers for a long time, but have often taken more of an interest in Affleck's films compared to her own projects.

Speaking to Allure in their May 2023 cover story, Garner explained: "They don't mind watching their dad, but they kind of want me to be their mum."

After explaining how her kids don't like watching her movies, Garner added: "They don't want to see me upset and women cry more in what we do. And they don't really want to see me in a romantic thing."

While Garner's children may not be the biggest fans of her movies, there's no doubt she's very fond of them.

"I have a lot of faith in my kids," she added. "I don't love every behaviour all the time, always. [But] it's gnarly growing up."

Affleck, meanwhile, has previously said he 'could not be more proud' of his three children.
