Wrestling legend John Cena is seen as an icon in WWE, but his work outside has also seen him heaped with praise from the public.

And that praise doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon, as Cena has set a new, incredibly wholesome and uplifting Guinness World Record.

The American actor has set a new world record for the most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, fulfilling no less than 650 wishes.

Cena is the most requested Make-A-Wish celebrity, with no other star coming near the amount of wishes he has granted.

According to Guinness World Records, no celebrity has surpassed even 200 wishes, with Cena granting more than triple of that still impressive number.

In 2015, Cena was honored for a staggering 500 wishes – but he wasn't done there.

In 2019, the wrestling star reached the 600 milestone and spoke to People on his achievement: "I said, 'If you ever need me for this ever, I don't care what I'm doing, I will drop what I'm doing and be involved because I think that's the coolest thing.

"We've all experienced that joy of giving a gift for the holidays where you just nail it – that's the same gift I get in giving back to people's lives, in being able to give them wonderful emotional moments."

The idea of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to create special moments for children who are seriously ill.

The foundation's mission statement reads: "Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

“Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments."

Cena has been granting wishes since 2002, just three years after he started out as a professional wrester.

As his number of belts grew and popularity increased, children's requests for him to grant wishes went up exponentially.

On why he continues to grant wishes to children after nearly two decades, Cena said: "I want them to have an experience that will stay with them forever. I don’t ever want the children or their families to be treated in a way where they feel as if they’re up against anything at all."

John Cena is currently focused on his acting career in Hollywood, however, during Comic-Con Wales last month, he refused to close the door to a wrestling return.
