Chris Evans has seemingly called for gun control as he led a host of celebrities in reacting to the tragic events in Texas yesterday, 24 May, which saw more than a dozen children killed at the hands of a shooter at an elementary school.

The number of fatalities has continued to climb as the extent of the tragedy has become clearer, with at least 19 children and two adults killed after a gunman aged 18 got into Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

In a short, expletive Tweet, The Avengers star Evans wrote “F***ING ENOUGH!!!!” apparently in reaction to the mass shooting.

In the past, the 40 year-old has called for ‘common sense reform’ around gun control laws – and he was far from alone in condemning the events in the southern USA state yesterday.

Several American politicians, sports stars and celebrities alike were among the voices expressing their dismay and calling for change around gun control laws.

NBA legend LeBron James wrote on his own Twitter: “My thoughts and prayers goes out to the families of love ones loss & injured at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, TX!

“Like when is enough enough man!!! These are kids and we keep putting them in harms way at school. Like seriously "AT SCHOOL" where it's suppose to be the safest!”

As events were developing, meanwhile, Piers Morgan wrote: “14 schoolchildren [and] a teacher at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas have been shot dead by an 18-year-old gunman.

“Absolutely horrendous. I don’t know what else to say about these endless US gun massacres – it’s for Americans to resolve but where is the will?”

Former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said in a tweet that 'thoughts and prayers are not enough'.

She added: “After years of nothing else, we are becoming a nation of anguished screams. We simply need legislators willing to stop the scourge of gun violence in America that is murdering our children.”

Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the shooter was an 18-year-old – who has since been revealed as local high school student Salvador Ramos.

“It's believed that he abandoned his vehicle and entered into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde with a handgun and he may have also had a rifle, but that is not yet confirmed according to my most recent report,” Gov. Abbott said.

Abbott said that Ramos was now dead.

He added: "What happened in Uvalde is a horrific tragedy that cannot be tolerated in the state of Texas. There is swift action being taken by local law enforcement."
