Calvin Harris has caused a stir after sharing image of his wife’s placenta on social media after she gave birth to their son.
Harris and his wife Vick Hope welcomed their first child into the world earlier this week and celebrated with some pictures on social media.
While many fans were happy to congratulate the couple’s latest milestone, many got a little more information than they were expecting.
While the DJ shared some images of himself holding his newborn and his wife in the birthing pool shortly after welcoming their son, named Micah, he also shared a snap of the placenta.
He also indicated what he was planning to do with it...
The new parent captioned the post: “20th of July our boy arrived. Micah is here! My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah.”

Some people have claimed that there are health benefits to consuming the placenta, claiming that they can help prevent postpartum depression as well as supply vitamin benefits.
However, there is very little scientific evidence to support any of these claims and the CDC has actually cautioned people against using placenta pills.
Others have simply argued that the supposed benefits are just an example of a placebo.
The CDC does say placenta pills 'should be avoided' following a case where doctors couldn't rule out the pills giving a newborn an unusual strain of bacteria.
They state: "The placenta encapsulation process does not, per se, eradicate infectious pathogens."
While some users on social media questioned whether the pair should be consuming the pills, more took issue with the lack of warning in the graphic image of the placenta.
One person commented on the Instagram post: “Congrats on the baby but the placenta pics are TMI. Whole, chopped up, or made into pill form. I could do without this info.”
Another added: “Didn’t expect to see a full on placenta pic whilst eating my lunch today.”
There has been little to no scientific evidence that placenta pills provide any health benefits (Instagram/@calvinharris) However, some people praised the pair and said it was a good step forward in dispelling the stigma around the realities of child birth.
One fan added: “Congratulations! Thank you for normalizing home birth (and placentas!) with these beautiful pictures. What a dream.”
And another wrote: “A big f**k yes to sharing about homebirth and placentas!!!! Congratulations!!”
