Fans are only just finding out the correct way to say Amanda Seyfried’s name.

It's always slightly baffling when you've read a word one way your entire life only to then go and hear someone say it out loud and you make the terrible realization you've butchered the pronunciation all these years.

Well, that's exactly the case for a whole load of confused social media users who have only just clocked on to the proper way to say Seyfried's surname and can't help but feel 'ashamed' at the embarrassing blunder. Check it out:

In an interview with Architectural Digest, Seyfried takes fans on a tour of her home.

She starts the video opening the doors to the stunning abode and introducing herself: "Hi, AD, I'm Amanda Seyfried.

"And this is my New York City apartment. And I'd love to show it to you because it's very cool."

The TikTok has since gone viral after clocking up over 3.1 million views in just the two days since it was posted, and hundreds upon hundreds of comments. However, it seems fans were more interested in the pronunciation of the Mamma Mia actor's name more so than any interior design features.

Many couldn't quite wrap their heads around the fact they had been calling Seyfried the wrong name this whole time.

One TikTok user exclaimed: "THAT'S HOW YOU SAY HER LAST NAME?!?!"

"Sorry, what in the last name?" echoed a second.

A third revealed: "The way I have been mispronouncing her last name my entire life wow."

"Did not think that was the way to pronounce her name," wrote a fourth while a fifth added: "Wait. I am shocked at the pronunciation of her last name lol."

A sixth chimed in: "I ran to the comments to make sure I wasn’t the only one who has been saying her last name wrong."

"I was today years old when I learned how to pronounce her last name," echoed another.

And it seems they weren't alone in the mistake as many others came forward admitting the whole array of ways they had been wrongly pronouncing the Mean Girls star's moniker.

A bunch of fans rushed to share their own alternative renditions of how they phonetically said 'Seyfried' with one TikTok user starting off with: "Wait, it's not pronounced 'say-freed'??"

"So it’s not Amanda sea freed," quipped a second.

A third asked: "Why did I think it was say-field."

Now that's not even close.

"Omd I thought it was Amanda sig freed," disclosed a fourth.

A fifth added: "Wait her last name isn’t pronounced 'say fried'."

"Sigh-furd? Or sigh-fred?" questioned another.

So we know how not to say it - but what is the correct way to pronounce 'Seyfried' after all?

Well, according to the woman herself - the 'Sey' is pronounced the same way you would the word 'sigh' and the 'fried' is pronounced 'fred'.

So, in short - we should be saying 'Amanda 'Sighfred' as opposed to any of those other bizarre modes of addresses fans have wound up sticking to after all these years.

One TikTok user summed the whole ordeal up pretty well: "SIGH FRED NOT SAY FREED?!? I feel so ashamed."

Well, now you know.
