People are discovering what the ‘I’ in iPhone stands for and their minds are blown

You may not have thought twice about it, but the 'I' in iPhone actually has a specific meaning.

Have you ever wondered what the 'I' in iPhone actually stands for? Well, if you have, your burning question has finally been answered.

The first iPhone was released in 2007 - and ever since, people have waited with bated breath to see what new product Apple will add to their repertoire.

The technology company - which is set to introduce its biggest ever change to iPhones in the next iOS update - has obviously enjoyed huge success.

Did you know that if instead of buying each new iPhone when it was released, you'd bought Apple shares instead, you'd now have $367 million? Madness.

All this time, Apple's logo has been surrounded by mystery - like, what's the deal with the apple?

Many have speculated it could be a reference to Adam and Eve in the Bible or the apple that fell on Isaac Newton's head - though graphic designer Rob Janoff has claimed those suggestions are more of a 'wonderful urban legend'.

With that in mind, many of us haven't probably considered where the 'I' originates.

However, many have flocked to social media to speculate as to what the 'I' could mean - and there have been a lot of good guesses out there.

The likes of 'intelligent' and 'indispensable' have been mentioned, while one social media user even suggested that it simply means 'I' in terms of 'my phone'.

Thankfully, the late Apple founder Steve Jobs revealed what the 'I' stands for back in 1998 - and it's many more words than you may think.

According to Reader's Digest, Steve Jobs confirmed that the 'I' stands for 'internet, individual, instruct, inform and inspire'.

However, he did add that the 'I' 'didn't have an official meaning', adding that it could also refer to 'I' as a personal pronoun or 'instruction' for teaching Apple's employees.

People were surprised to finally have the meaning (sort of) confirmed, and shared what they thought the 'i' stood for.

In a TikTok and YouTube video about the topic, someone wrote: "I thought it was i for myself," while another thought it meant 'intelligent'.

A third said: "i thought it was because os iOS."

While on YouTube, one person commented: "I guess you could say, “i” didn’t know this before."

And another wrote: "This is what i wondered last night when i was trying to sleep..."

Recently, iPhone users were urged to update their phones after 15 security issues were discovered.

Apple has urged all iPhone users to download the latest iOS 17.3 update after security issues were flagged as potentially exposing users' sensitive data.

The identified breaches were found in Mail Search, where third parties could reportedly access information and the Safari browser, which may have let the users' private browsing activity be visible in Settings.

The security issues were also identified in WebKit, the browser that powers Safari.

Apple described it as 'a maliciously crafted web page may be able to fingerprint the user' and said it 'doesn't disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available'.
