Google has lifted the lid on what Americans were most curious about in 2025, and the results are quite sad.

The search giant released its annual 'Year in Search' roundup today (December 28), revealing the topics, people and trends that dominated US search bars over the past year.

Topping the overall list was conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who became the most searched-for name in the country following his assassination in September.

Next up was KPop Demon Hunters, the wildly popular Netflix animated kids movie, which follows a Korean girl group who secretly battle evil spirits.

Another children’s craze, the Labubu toys, claimed third place.

For those who have never heard of the infamous Labubu dolls, they are the evil-looking gremlins that fans have been queuing up to get their hands on, and in some cases, even fetching thousands of dollars.

They are the creation of the Chinese toy company POP MART, which in 2019 teamed up with Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung to create the Labubus, which are inspired by his illustrated book series The Monsters, where they roam as a tribe of female elves.

The toys' popularity has since birthed a deranged conspiracy theory that Labubus are cursed and possessed by a demon.

Rounding out the top five were Apple’s iPhone 17 and President Donald Trump’s controversial ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ legislation.

Speaking about his triumph, Trump told crowds at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this summer: "There can be no better birthday for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved just hours ago when Congress passed the big, beautiful bill to make America great again."

The almost 1,000-page budget revamp will add some $3.4 trillion to the country's national debt (which currently stands at $36.2 trillion) over the next decade.

Among other things, it delivers tax breaks Trump promised when he was running for president in 2024, while also cutting health and food safety programmes.

Celebrity deaths were another major area of interest, with Kirk again topping that list, followed by the tragic passing of the likes of Gene Hackman, Ozzy Osbourne, Anne Burrell and Val Kilmer.

Meanwhile, music searches were led by Taylor Swift, who appeared multiple times in the top 10, alongside Bad Bunny. As for TV, The Hunting Wives claimed the number one spot, followed by The White Lotus.
