Shah was making a grand performance in an iron cage before part of the chain supporting the structure snapped.

The CEO and his colleague, Raju Datla, entered the cage intended to be lowered from height. After the chain snapped, both men were dropped 15ft to the concrete ground.

The accident happened on Thursday (January 18) evening as the company celebrated its silver jubilee at the movie Ramoji Film City movie studio in Hyderabad, India.

His colleague, Datla, remains in a serious condition, while Shah succumbed to his injuries.

"Shah and Raju being lowered from the cage onto the dais was a planned event to kickstart the celebrations," a company official told The Times of India.

"Suddenly, one of the two wires attached to the cage snapped. Both plunged more than 15 feet and landed on the concrete dais. This caused multiple injuries," police have said.

They also added that a case was registered against the Film City event management authorities.

Video of the incident has begun circulating on social media and viewers have been equally horrified.

Many users offered their condolences for the bizarre incident.

“Such a tragic event. My condolences to the family and friends of Sanjay Shah. Its a stark reminder of the risks inherent in certain professions. May he rest in peace,” one user wrote on X.

“What a sad story. Life can end quickly,” wrote another.

“It is truly unfortunate to hear of Sanjay Shahs tragic accident. Workplace safety should always be a top priority to prevent such incidents. Sending condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Vistex team,” another wrote.

The jubilee celebration was intended to last two days, but was likely cut short following the incident.

Vistex, an Illinois-based firm that specializes in revenue management solutions and services, has 20 global offices and more than 2,000 employees.

Shah founded Vistex after leaving software company SAP, and had seen regular success as the company had unparalleled year-over-year growth for two decades.

Shah was also active in philanthropy through the establishment of the Vistex Foundation.
