Flight attendant shares what actually happens to passengers when they’re caught joining the mile high club

It's a popular trope, but what happens when people actually try to pull it off?

A flight attendant has opened up about what actually happens when passengers are caught joining the mile high club.

It's a popular fantasy, with many people imagining what it would be like to do the deed while 30,000ft in the air.

But while there's something undeniably poetic about getting it on in the clouds, the reality of it is probably a lot less glamorous and romantic.

Few things scream 'getting in the mood' less than a cramped, stale plane toilet smelling like bleach and stale pee, with barely enough space for one person, let alone two.

And while you might think that you've been discreet, in a space as cramped as a plane the chances are that someone has clocked that you both went into the cubicle at the same time.

Among those are the stewards who have probably, quite literally, seen it all before.

Now, one has shared how crews might deal with catching a couple in flagrante on a flight.

Mandy Smith is a flight attendant who has published Cabin Fever: The Sizzling Secrets of a Virgin Air Hostess, a tell-all memoir offering a glimpse behind the curtain in the world of air travel.

Inevitably this is includes amorous couples trying it on, and despite how well-known it is, Mandy shared that it's rarer than you might expect.

"I would say one in twenty or thirty flights," she told LADBible Stories. "Not really that often."

Perhaps the often less-than-pleasant reality of being on a plane is enough to put paid to any amorous intent for all but the most determined of would-be mile high club members.

And the way that it's dealt with?

Mandy shared it's mostly an awkward knock on the toilet door, and politely asking them to pack it in.

"It's worse when you've got children on board and it's in the daytime," she said.

But on night flights, where most passengers are asleep anyway, she might be a little more permissive, as long as people aren't taking the micky.

"If it's on a night flight and they're being discreet, I probably wouldn't even interrupt them if I'm honest," she said.

Mandy recalled a colleague who had a young woman who was determined to do the deed, despite repeated tellings off.

"One of my friends had a situation where there was a young lady of 18 who was quite determined to join the mile high club, and she just grabbed anyone," she said.

But the young passenger was not deterred.

"She sat back down in her seat, and then about half an hour later she was back up with another chap trying to join the mile high club again," said Mandy.

"My friend said she went to speak to her parents, because she was actually travelling with her mom and dad.

"She was only 18 bless her, she didn't do it again."

Talk about carrying more than just physical baggage when you get to the airport...
