Woman Reveals Why She Decided To Marry A Convicted Murderer Twice

In Marrying a Murderer, one woman explains how she got married to a murderer not once - but twice.

A woman was so unlucky in love that she married a murdered not once, but twice.

Marrying a Murderer is the latest special from Nancy Grace, an author, TV personality and former prosecutor behind Fox Nation's Crime Stories series.

In her newest show, she posits the question: why do people marry convicted murderers? 'These murder match-ups behind bars are very hard for me to understand – why do women marry men who murder?' she asks.

'Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, the Menendez brothers, Chris Watts: they all found love in lockup,' Grace says at the start of the special.

She meets a number of women who've married murderers, including Teresa X. Roberts, who opened up about being abused by her father and brother when she was a child. When her brother was sentenced to prison, she ended up becoming pen pals with another convict who'd asked her brother if he could write to her.

'I found somebody on a prison pen-pal website called Friends Beyond the Wall... and that's how I met my murderous husband,' she said.

Roberts also listed three reasons for marrying someone others would perhaps consider a bit dangerous. 'Number one, I wanted somebody far away so I wouldn't be tempted to visit. Number two, I wanted somebody serving a long time, so he wouldn't get out and basically break my heart or hurt me,' she said.

'And number three, I wanted somebody that was somewhat average looking — not super good looking, not hideous. And so I found him, like, on that website. And I was like, ‘OK, perfect',' she added.

Roberts, who wrote the book Why I Married A Murderer: And How I Survived the Divorce, ended up marrying another murderer too. And as for if she'd ever do it again, 'I have to say, obviously, I would do it again — because I did it again,' she said.

Sheila Isenberg, author of Women Who Love Men Who Kill and a special guest on Grace's programme, tried to explain why Roberts may have been drawn to these men.

'If you've had an abusive past or if you've been a victim in your childhood or early relationships of physical abuse, psychological abuse... you wanna find a relationship where no one can hurt, a relationship where you are basically in control. She wants to find someone that she can control, and that's safe for her,' she said.
