People are flooding to social media in horror after a woman revealed what she discovered after hearing 'a loud thud' in the bathroom.

Anyone else ever sit down on the loo and suddenly get hit by an intrusive thought that a snake or mouse has slid up into the bowl and is about to pounce on your derriere? No? Just me?

Well, you may laugh, but maybe you should start double checking next time before you pop a squat, because a TikToker from Austin, Texas, saw some rats scarpering out of her toilet. Prepare to never relax when on the loo ever again:

Catherine Mulder - who goes by @thecatherinemulder on the platform - took to TikTok earlier this year to tell followers about some 'bonus roommates' she acquired after moving into a new apartment on the weekend of her birthday.

In the video - uploaded on the 29 July, 2023 - Mulder explains: "I literally just moved into this apartment, 25 seconds ago, put those keys in the door and unlocked it.

"I went and flushed the toilet because I just had the water turned on. Heard a loud thud. I'm literally shaking right now."

The TikToker then reverses the camera and swings open her bathroom door to reveal what lies inside.

And lo and behold, a rat is sat there, chilling out on the toilet seat.

"And this came out of the toilet," Catherine yells, before screaming as another, much larger looking rodent, pokes it's head out of the bowl.

"I'm moving the f**k out. I'm out. I'm out. I'm out," the TikToker resolves, grabbing her keys.

To be fair to the first rat, it is rather small and actually looks rather cute, politely sitting on the edge of the seat, but if I was Catherine and that was my new apartment? Well, I'd be straight out the front door too.

And other TikTok users certainly feel the same, flocking to the video in horror.

And there's another one.

One person said: "At first I was like, 'roommates plural? There’s only one raAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!'"

"Those rats have no fear… it’s scary how they’re just chilling there even after you yelled that’ll usually make them scatter lol," another added.

A third commented: "Did we all collectively scream when the second one came out?"

And a fourth resolved: "I’d call the health department first then video to property management and the news. I’m with you I’m out."

According to later posts, Catherine explains the building's management consulted professionals and gave advice on how to keep the rats at bay, as well as deep-cleaning the apartment.

Au revoir ratties.
