A dietician tried out an unusual food fad to see if it would make a big different to her.

When it comes to dieting and health fads, there are as many out there as stars in the sky.

Of course, what we eat does have a huge impact on our health and wellbeing, though generally this is more about making sure we have a balanced diet with lots of veggies, exercise regularly, and have a treat sometimes.

But you're not here for that boring grownup advice - you want to know about some crazy off the wall idea, which makes some outlandish claims about the impact it can have on your life.

And luckily for you, award-winning registered dietician Lauren Manaker decided to try out just such an idea to see for herself the results it might have.

This was having a shot of olive oil every day for a week, which can supposedly improve your hair, your skin, and just your general health.

The internet is awash with praise for the 'Mediterranean diet' and its health benefits, I mean who doesn't love a delicious kebab after all, but the food at the centre is olive oil.

Whether it's being drizzled or used to fry, olive oil has long been a favourite superfood with its health benefits over vegetable oils or butter trumpeted.

But we're not talking that, we're talking an actual, literal shot of olive oil.

"I poured my first shot, complete with an actual shot glass, ready to embrace the peppery, liquid gold experience everyone raves about," wrote Lauren. "I brought the glass to my lips, took a deep breath, and… nope."

Fair enough, I wouldn't fancy necking a shot of olive oil either.

So, Lauren compromised and drizzled it on salads, roasted vegetables after cooking, and even had it in a coffee.

My question is if fat-washing vodka with olive oil and putting that in a martini would count? It certainly has the 'shot' part.

But what did she find after having the equivalent of a shot of olive oil every day for a week?

Well, not much, it turns out.

"Over the seven days, I didn’t notice any remarkable changes in my body," she wrote. "I didn’t wake up easier in the mornings, and my focus at work was pretty much unchanged. My skin didn’t suddenly become luminous, nor did my hair take on any extra shine."
