Gabby Petito penned a heartbreaking letter to her boyfriend Brian Laundrie in the lead up to her untimely death.

Petito was killed by Laundrie in 2021, and the sad story about her untimely passing has been in the news again of late in the wake of a new Netflix documentary coming out.

Titled American Murder: Gabby Petito, the three-part docu-series looks into the weeks leading up to Petito's death and the events that unfolded.

Part of the series shows the bodycam footage from police in Utah when they approached the couple following reports that Laundrie was seen slapping Petito by a member of the public.

But before the documentary aired, the FBI released a heartbreaking letter that Petito wrote to Laundrie in the run-up to her death where she asked him to stop calling her names.

Part of it read: "Just please stop crying and stop calling me names because we're a team and I'm here with you.

"Yes, I can be a child sometimes I know, but it's ‘cause you give me this energy and I just love you too much. Like so much it hurts."

It went on: "So, you in pain is killing me. I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm frustrated there's not more I can do."

American Murder: Gabby Petito has sparked some controversy since its release in light of there being journals read out by an AI-generated voice to sound like Petito's.

Viewers of the Netflix series branded the feature as 'creepy' and 'uncomfortable'.

One Redditor said: "I hated it personally, I’m sure her family approved it and it may have been really meaningful to them.

"But if I die tragically please no one recreate my voice to make a better documentary. Creepy."

Echoing similar sentiments, someone else wrote: "Yeah, made me uncomfortable. As soon as I heard it I went to reddit to see if anybody else had the same reaction haha.

"Netflix has been caught using AI on their true crime series in the past so I’m not really surprised, It's just gross that they have no shame in doing this sort of thing."

UNILAD approached Netflix at the time for comment on the matter.
