While most people in Florida have their homes and sought shelter, some news correspondents have been risking their lives to report on Hurricane Milton.

One reporter at the scene was CNN's Anderson Cooper.

Cooper battled 120mph winds during a recent broadcast, and sparked concerns after he was hit with some debris.

Following the incident, the reporter assured viewers that he and the team would 'probably go inside shortly'.

As well as Cooper, Fox Weather correspondent Robert Ray was live-reporting at the peak of Hurricane Milton, and had a very close call while doing so.

Initially, Ray and the rest of the news crew had been reporting by Florida's Manatee River, but they were forced to move after a large pine tree nearly fell on them and their vehicles.

Speaking while battling the gale force winds that were almost knocking him off his feet, Ray told the reporter in the newsroom: "We had a huge pine tree fall right in front of us, right by our vehicles. Part of it went inside the truck where Lloyd Alfred's camera is."

He continued: "We moved inland off of [the coast] because it was not safe with the tree debris."

While the moment the tree fell was not caught on camera, Ray did share a short clip of the aftermath of it to his Twitter page.

He penned alongside the short social media video: "Huge tree just fell minutes after I got into the vehicle after a live report. Wow!"

People were quick to share their relief that he and the team were all safe afterwards and applauded his news coverage.

"I am so glad you are safe and well, I wanted to thank you so much for your coverage," wrote one person.

"My mother and I were on the edge of our seats wondering if you would get absolutely blown away like some Looney Tunes character. I have not seen better tv. This is peak."

A second said: "Please stay safe... we are so grateful for your dedication to inform all of us the severity of the storm. We are keeping you and Lloyd in our prayers ! We are keeping all of Florida in our prayers!"

At the time of writing, CNN reported that the eye of Hurricane Milton is on its way to exit Florida's east coast.
