YouTube star Tiago Eugénio dies after horror car crash that left him in 80-day coma

Social media influencer Tiago Eugénio has died at the age of 28 after suffering serious injuries in a car crash.

Tributes are being paid to a YouTube star who died after a car crash left him in an 80-day coma.

Portuguese social media influencer Tiago Eugénio, 28, suffered serious injuries in a car crash at the end of June.

After spending more than two months in hospital fighting for his life, Eugénio passed away on Thursday morning (September 14).

Eugénio was pulled from the car wreckage by firefighters and transported to Faro hospital following the crash.

He was put in an induced coma while in intensive care.

Eugénio’s mom described her son as a ‘warrior’ as she broke the sad news confirming his death.

“One of the things I always asked God for was that I would never have to go through pain like this. I want to inform you that my love, my Tiago, left this morning. He fought for 80 days,” she posted in a social media tribute. “A great warrior, but God wanted it that way. I can only accept it with enormous pain, which destroys my heart. To you my beautiful love, mother just wants you to leave in peace. You will definitely have your grandmothers waiting for you, a part of me goes with you. I will love you forever. One day we will meet.”

Eugénio amassed a passionate following on social media, including 161,000 followers on Instagram over 8,000 subscribers on YouTube.

Eugénio was born in São Brás de Alportel, a town in the Algarve region of Portugal. He started his YouTube channel four years ago and used it to share vlogs about his life.

He had been left in a critical condition following the crash on the A22 motorway near the village of Boliqueime on June 23.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash at around 5 a.m. and found Eugénio trapped in the wreckage of the car, according to local reports.

Following the news of his death, one friend of Eugénio shared a picture of herself and her husband alongside the social media star on their wedding day. The message that accompanied the picture said: “My dear friend you will never be forgotten, you will always be in my heart, rest in peace my friend.

"I leave here a memory of a day so important to me that you were part of, I thank you for everything you did on this day. Until one day my friend.”

While another friend shared: 'I want to send my condolences to all of Tiago's family, friends and fans! I'm still in shock.

“He was one of the first people who believed in me from the beginning. And knowing that today we lost a fantastic person leaves my heart in my hands.

“I had already thanked him several times, but I want to thank him again for how important it was for him to believe in me. I know you will always be up there supporting me and giving me strength every day. Rest in peace.”
