The president's new $5,000,000 'Gold Card' visa is apparently proving a hit already as eye-watering amounts have already been sold.

Donald Trump announced the new visa route last month, which is an expanded 'green card' that permits millionaire migrants the chance to work in the US and obtain US citizenship at a faster rate than other regular visas.

Considering its major selling point, a direct path to US citizenship and therefore permanent residency in the country, it's not cheap - coming in at $5 million dollars per applicant.

The program is due to replace the EB-5 visa, which cost $20,000 and stipulates a hefty investment in a US business, in favor of vetted, wealthy migrants.

The proposal was met with some controversy as many debated the ethics in being able to essentially 'buy' US citizenship, while the Trump administration continues to crackdown on illegal migration and other humanitarian routes.

However, in defense of his plans, Trump predicted the program would raise $55 trillion in revenue, which would help tackle the federal deficit, while attracting affluent foreign investors to the states.

Now, it has been revealed just how many are being sold every day and how much has been raised, even though the official application system doesn't exist yet.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick revealed on All-In Podcast that he sold 1,000 Gold Cards in one day and has raised $5 billion to date.

He added: "There are 37 million people in the world who are capable of buying the card... The president thinks we can sell a million."

Lutnick further revealed Trump was inspired by the Gold Card idea after a meeting with investor, John Paulson, and has tasked his right-hand man and head at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, with building the software to launch in the next two weeks.

The secretary also said had he been born outside of the US, he would've personally bought six Gold Cards for him and his family, as a safety precaution in case of crisis.

"[B]ecause God forbid something happens, I want to be able to go to America," he said.

Explaining how they will work, Lutnick said the Gold Card could be revoked from migrants if found guilty of criminal activity or any other violations, and that while cardholders could pursue citizenship, many might opt against it to avoid US global taxation.

Still, they allow holders the right to live in the US indefinitely and without restrictions.

Last month, Trump also said the option 'could be great, maybe it will be fantastic.'

It doesn't need Congress approval either, as he noted further: "We don't need Congress ... It's a path to citizenship, a very strong path to citizenship, but we're not doing citizenship. For that I'd have to get Congress."

The administration is hoping it will make a dent in the $36.2 trillion national debt.

President Trump has also suggested renaming the route to the 'Trump Card,' previously telling Fox News that 'the Trump Card sells much better than the Gold Card.'
