Expert breaks down extremely subtle gesture from Trump to Putin that shows the nature of their relationship

Political commentator Mark Halperin revealed a moment you might have missed from Putin and Trump's first meeting since 2018

A subtle moment between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump during their press conference in Alaska could share insights into their relationship.

Putin and Trump’s long-awaited meeting to hash out the details of a peaceful resolution between Russia and Ukraine on Friday (August 15) has finally occurred.

Meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, the two leaders began a lengthy meeting about a possible deal, which lasted around three hours.

After they’d come to an understanding, the pair appeared before the press for a 12-minute conference, where they announced that no resolution had been reached - something Trump had already predicted.

Before the pair's meeting, Trump had made an honest comment about whether he believed he could broker a peace deal.

Trump said: "I'll tell you what. I've had that conversation with him. I've had a lot of good conversations with him then I go home and I see that a rocket hit a nursing home or a rocket hit an apartment building, and people are laying dead in the streets.

"So, I guess the answer to that is no, because I've had this conversation. I want to end the war. It's Biden's war, but I want to end it.

"I'll be very proud to end this war, along with the five other wars I ended. But, I guess the answer to that is probably no."

After their confidential talk, Trump said to reporters: "We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there."

He added: "I'm going to start making a few phone calls and tell them what happened. But we had an extremely productive meeting, and many points were agreed to, and there are just a very few that are left."

But while they may not have agreed to a deal, and many believe the pair have ill feelings toward one another thanks to the back-and-forth snipes between the Administration and the Kremlin, an expert says otherwise.

Mark Halperin, a journalist and political commentator, wrote for the Daily Mail his take on one moment you may have missed from the conference, which could show just how the leaders feel about one another.

He explained that Trump publicly referred to his Putin as 'Vladimir', calling it a ‘gesture of comradery and esteem’.

He also went on to say that Putin broke the conventions of such discussions and spoke first at the press conference.

Putin even spoke for eight minutes compared to Trump’s three minutes, inputting much more of his thoughts on the situation than anticipated.

In another instance of familiarity, Putin also appeared to compliment Trump by mentioning that had Joe Biden not won the 2020 election, no war in Ukraine would have been launched.

Body language professionals also broke down Trump’s yank and pull handshake after the pair met off their jets, dubbing it a power play - but noted Trump whispering in his ear which is a sign of intimacy.

While their relationship has been rocky since he took to office this year, Patty Ann Wood shared that it ‘looked like two old friends seeing each other after a long time’.
