Donald Trump’s historic mugshot is now unofficially meme-of-the-year.

The 77-year-old - who became the first former president to ever have a mugshot taken - was hit with multiple charges related to the 2020 US Election.

When Trump arrived in Fulton County, Georgia to be formally processed on Thursday (24 August), he was charged with violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced And Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, as well as six conspiracy counts over alleged efforts to commit forgery, impersonate a public official and submit false statements and documents.

Atlanta criminal defence attorney Steve Sadow, who represents Trump, claimed: “He is innocent of all the charges brought against him.

“We look forward to the case being dismissed or, if necessary, an unbiased, open minded jury finding the president not guilty.

“Prosecutions intended to advance or serve the ambitions and careers of political opponents of the president have no place in our justice system.”

This all stems from a phone call made on 2 January 2021 where Trump allegedly urged Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, to 'find 11,780 votes' to reverse his loss in the state.

Trump has called the investigation a witch hunt, but agreed to travel from New Jersey to Georgia on August 24 to get his mugshot and fingerprints taken.

After taking his mugshot, Trump was released on a $200,000 bond and headed back to the airport for his return flight home to New Jersey.

On the exact same day the mugshot was released to the public, Trump was reinstated back on X (Twitter), where he cheekily posted the image alongside the words 'Election interference. Never surrender!' along with a link to his website, which directs to a fundraising page.

What he perhaps did not anticipate was the sheer number of memes that were to follow.

I mean it only took a matter of minutes before his historic mugshot was plastered over every bit of merchandise possible.

In that time, his mugshot was uploaded to the internet for all to see and people quickly copy pasted the image onto whatever merchandise they could find.

There's even a website where you can get your very own sweatshirt or mug with Trump's headshot on there.

On a more serious note, according to the indictment: "Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and wilfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favour of Trump.

"That conspiracy contained a common plan and purpose to commit two or more acts of racketeering activity in Fulton County, Georgia, elsewhere in the state of Georgia, and in other states."

This indictment in Georgia was the fourth that he's been dealt in just five months.

The ex-Commander in Chief was among a total of 19 defendants who were indicted.
