People Are Royally Mocking The US/Mexico Border Wall Going Into The Ocean

People have taken to social media to mock the end of the US/Mexico border wall.

People have taken to social media to mock the end of the US/Mexico border wall, which stops abruptly in the ocean.

A photo of the end of the border wall was shared to Reddit that showed the structure dividing a beach and extending into the sea.

Soon after the photo was posted, users started weighing in with their view on the wall, with one user sarcastically writing: "Look how far architecture and engineering have come in 2000 years."

"So does a border agent sit on that little pylon at the end there and yell/shoot at anyone who wades around the end?" another added, to which another user confirmed: "More or less. Been there. The guards got upset if you got within 10ft of wall. They yelled at swimmers if they got anywhere near it."

Despite the pretty comedic abrupt ending to the wall, photographer John Moore told CNN: “Occasionally someone tries to swim around the fence, but often they have to get rescued or they are quickly taken into custody by Border Patrol agents.

“It’s one of the most secure spots of the entire US-Mexico border.”

Others compared the US/Mexico border wall to another famous wall, with one saying: "Doesn’t the Great Wall of China do the same thing?"

The user then linked to this picture of the Great Wall, which many said makes the US/Mexico border wall look more like a 'fence'.

The border wall made headlines earlier this month after The Washington Post reported it had been breached 3,272 times by smugglers over the past few years, with the US government spending $2.6 million to repair breaches.

Former president Donald Trump has in the past likened the wall to a 'Rolls Royce', but stopped calling it 'impenetrable' in 2019 after reports emerged of smugglers breaking through the wall with regular power tools.

When asked about the breaches, the ex-president said 'we have a very powerful wall' but that 'no matter how powerful, you can cut through anything'.

Customs and Border Protection spokesperson Luis Miranda confirmed this, stating: "No structure is impenetrable, so we will continue to work to focus resources on modern, effective border management measures to improve safety and security."

During his time in office, Trump had 458 miles of barriers built across New Mexico and Arizona. He planned to complete another 250 miles, but that plan was stopped when now-president Joe Biden paused construction after taking office.

According to Miranda, the Biden administration 'continues to call on Congress to cancel remaining border wall funding and instead fund smarter border security measures that are proven to be more effective at improving safety and security at the border'.
