New Avatar film has rating that includes warning of 'partial nudity'

We’ll be able to wrap our eyeballs around Avatar: The Way of Water in just a matter of weeks

We’ll be able to wrap our eyeballs around Avatar: The Way of Water in just a matter of weeks, with James Cameron’s much-anticipated sequel hitting cinemas on 16 December.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the movie had finished post-production, with producer Jon Landau tweeting on Thursday: “Congratulations to the entire Avatar: The Way of Water family. Yesterday we completed our final mix and picture mastering and I snapped this picture of our post finishing team. I am thankful to every one of you for your contributions to the film.”

And now, the Motion Picture Association has confirmed the sequel will be rated PG-13, pointing to ‘partial nudity and strong language’.

According to Comic Book, the MPAA confirmed the film was giving a PG-13 rating due to 'sequences of strong violence and intense action, partial nudity and some strong language'.

It was also previously confirmed that The Way of Water has a whopping run-time of two hours and 40 minutes.

Speaking to Empire, Cameron even made a point of encouraging fans to take toilet breaks throughout the movie.

The director said: “I don't want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch for eight hours [...] I can almost write this part of the review.

"'The agonisingly long three-hour movie...' It's like, give me a f*****g break. I've watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row."

He went on: "Here's the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: it's okay to get up and go pee."

He also opened up about the film’s length when speaking to Total Film, explaining: “The goal is to tell an extremely compelling story on an emotional basis.

"I would say the emphasis in the new film is more on character, more on story, more on relationships, more on emotion. We didn’t spend as much time on relationship and emotion in the first film as we do in the second film, and it’s a longer film, because there’s more characters to service. There’s more story to service."

Released 13 years after the original, The Way Of Water will once again be presented in 3D and will make up the first of four follow-up movies.

The official synopsis for Way of Water reads: "Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together.

"However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans."
