Model Kate Moss is set to testify in Johnny Depp’s defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, according to the Press Association, citing a ‘source close to Mr Depp’.

Depp is suing Heard over a 2018 article she’d written for the Washington Post, claiming she was a victim of domestic violence. While she did not name the Pirates of the Caribbean star, lawyers for Depp – who denies all accusations – have argued the piece falsely implied he was physically and sexually abusive while they were together.

Moss, 48, is now set to testify in the case, with a source close to Depp confirming to PA that she will give evidence this week.

It follows footage that appeared to show Depp’s legal team celebrating when Heard mentioned Moss as she described hearing a rumour that Depp had pushed the supermodel down a flight of stairs.

Moss, who dated Depp in the 1990s, is expected to appear in court via video link on Wednesday 25 May.

While a number of famous names appeared on the initial witness lists for the trial – including Tesla billionaire Elon Musk and actors James Franco and Paul Bettany – none have been called on so far.

However, actor Ellen Barkin has already testified in the trial to speak about what Depp was like when they were dating in the mid-1990s.

Barkin claimed during that time he was smoking weed, took a lot of cocaine and was 'drunk a lot'.

She also recalled an alleged altercation between Depp and a friend in a hotel room in Las Vegas, claiming he threw a wine bottle across the room. While it didn't hit anyone, Barkin said he threw it in her direction.

"He's just a jealous man, controlling," she said. "'Where are you going? Who are you going with? What did you do last night?'

"I had a scratch on my back once that got him very, very angry because he insisted that it came from me having sex with a person who wasn't him."

Barkin's comments came after Heard claimed during her testimony that Depp had thrown bottles at her in the past. She also claimed Depp sexually assaulted her with one.

Heard recalled: "The next thing I remember, I was bent over backwards on the bar, meaning my chest was up. I was staring at the blue light. My back is on the countertop and I thought he was punching me.

"I felt this pressure on my pubic bone. I thought he was punching me.

"I could feel his arm moving and it looked like he was punching me. But I could just feel this pressure.”
